Transitions Times and Anxiety
DVFS Lower School Assistant Director, and Lower & Middle School Counselor, Christy Zawadzkas, shared some thoughts about an article she recently read about anxiety, and we wanted to share this food for thought regarding helping your student through a time of transition, such as the beginning of a new school year.
Transitions can be challenging. Whether we are transitioning to a new school, new city, or new job, there may be some anxiety.
Although, we may be looking forward to the next chapter, undoubtedly our innermost thoughts can consume our minds thus impacting our overall experience.
Thoughts such as:
"what will this next adventure be like?"
"will I know anyone?"
"will I like it?"
can paralyze us and prohibit us from really embracing the situation in front of us. Learning and identifying some coping skills can help children and adults alike embrace these foreseen and unexpected transitions with more calm and resiliency.CLICK HERE to go to the full article from UNDERSTOOD -> "Anxiety: Why It's Different From Stress" -->
