ABLE Skiing Day 4

Casey had this narrative to share about Day 4 of ABLE Ski Touring:

"Today, we woke up at 7:30am for breakfast made by Pat and Tristen. After breakfast, our group decided to head out to a new location of ski trails that DV has never explored before. We started out on an intermediate trail in the 30-degree weather and continued until we arrived at a beautiful overlook of the hills. The snow was very soft since the temp went up a lot from yesterday, …

ABLE Skiing - Day 3

ABLE Ski Touring Day 3 -- More skiing. More good weather. The students took on some trails with bigger hills on Day 3. Ken sent these two videos, and they reminded me of the opening of the 70s TV show The Wide World of Sports:

No one was hurt. Everyone did great, and they all seem to be having a lot of fun.

Mark shared his insights on the day:

"Today, the group woke up at 8:00 to a pancake breakfast made by Drew and Francesca. After the well-made …

ABLE Skiing - Day 2

Day 2 of ABLE Ski Touring started with a hot breakfast. It was a cold but clear first full day of skiing with temperatures hovering around zero, no wind, and lots of sunshine and blue skies. We skied from 10:30 am to 3:00 pm. The trails were not crowded today, but the ski center is expecting another school group tomorrow. Everyone is tired but they all did well.

Pat shared this reflection on today's adventures:

"Today we woke up around 7:30am and …

ABLE Skiing 2020

Students embarked on the annual ABLE cross country ski trip today. The students left school around 9:00 this morning and arrived at the ski area around 3:00 pm. They got their gear and tried out their skis at the Osceola Tug Hill Ski Center for a few hours before heading back to settle into their rooms and prepare dinner. It was a nice afternoon for getting a feel for cross country skiing and a great start to the trip.

ABLE SKi Touring 2019

Priya and Brady shared their impressions of the last day of ski touring 2019: "Today was sadly the last day but that didn't mean we did not try new things. For example, Priya, Duncan and Marco tried skate skis, which were quite different from the normal cross-country skis we used the majority of the trip. Also, Alex, Brady, Zach and Duncan made a little ramp to do some 180s -- but don't worry, there was no damage to skis or people. We also tried …

ABLE Ski Touring 2019

Day 4 proved a more challenging day for the group. After two days of big mileage, sore ankles got the best of some of our skiers, and they had a shorter day on the trails.

Zach and Alex shared this description: "Today the skiers woke up and had an amazing breakfast of eggs, bacon and melon. Then we traveled to Winona State Forest to see a local dogsledding race. Then finally we went skiing where some of the kids were sore and didn't feel well, so…

ABLE Ski Touring 2019

Saturday was a nice day of skiing. With 4 inches of snow overnight, the trails were fresh and fast. There were more that 100 other people at the ski area, but outside of the lodge there was no overcrowding.

Maria and Duncan had this to say about today's adventures: "Today we woke up and ate very delicious pancakes, got dressed, and headed out the door for our second day of skiing. Even though everyone was sore, we still went to the bigger hills …

ABLE Ski Touring 2019

Miles and Marco shared the following description of today's activities:

"Today on our ski trip we hit some hard times when our group encountered sticky snow. Despite this, we all held our heads up high. The skiers also had to handle skiing through hail and cold rain. We had lunch in the lodge and then went back out and skied for another 2-hours."

Ken added: The Tug Hill Cross-Country Ski area is divided into two parts, north and south. The group …

ABLE Ski Touring 2019

All arrived safely after a 6-hour drive. The group got in one hour of skiing before it was time to go. Now everyone has their skis, ski boots, and poles, so they are all ready to go tomorrow!

Priyanka and Brady shared this description of the first day's activities: "Today, skiers traveled to Osceola (Tug Hill) where they either learned for the first time or refreshed their memories on the basics of cross-country skiing. Although there were several…
