2018 Chesapeake Sailing - Day 1

DAY 1 -- Chesapeake Bay Sailing Trip

After loading all our food and belongings, we had lunch and set sail. With steady 25 MPH winds gusting to 38 MPH, the crew had a wild sail.

Spent the night in Turner Creek to get out of the wind. The cooks make a nice dinner -- chicken stir fry -- and the day ended with the traditional evening meeting. Everyone was in their birth (bunk) by 9:30.

John, Class of 2020, shared this reflection about Day 1:

Today, the first day of the sailing trip, we learned the ins and outs of the two boats: where we would be sleeping, eating, etc. We ate pizza before leaving the docks and sailed all the way to Turner Creek; then anchored, ate dinner, and slept. While sailing, we hit winds up to 38 MPH and had a boat ride that felt like a rollercoaster. At the end of the day, as a group, we had a meeting reviewing the day and talking to one another.
