Philip Schultz Visit:
Pulitzer Prize winner Philip Schultz was the featured speaker at the Annual Arts Festival on Friday, May 10, 2013. During his address, Mr. Schultz, who did not know he was dyslexic until his son was diagnosed, read from his memoir, My Dyslexia, as well as selected poems. He also answered questions from some of the DVFS parents and students who gathered for the event. Earlier in the day, Mr. Schultz led a workshop with the school’s creative writing students, whose 2013 literary magazine, everyanything, also debuted during the arts festival. Click here for more. -

Chemistry Notes:
Chemistry students separated two unknown liquids using boiling point differences in a distillation apparatus. These students started organic chemistry studies by making models of the single-bonded hydrocarbons, methane, ethane, propane, and butane. Then they sketched out structural formulas for the larger alkanes: pentane, hexane, heptane, octane, nonane and decane. Next they will be finding the different isomers of these hydrocarbons.
