The Annual DVFS Arts Festival

Friday, May 12, 6:30 - 9:30 pm

Thank you to everyone who came out to enjoy the entertainment, performances, and artwork shared by our students this year! Scroll down for photos and video from the event!

The Arts Fest is an annual event hosted by the DVFS Arts and Music Departments. View student artwork created during the school year, be entertained by music, dance and songs that students have been working on in classes and clubs, see the Senior Studio Arts Portfolios, and enjoy snacks created by the Culinary Arts classes.

Special thanks to DV alumnae Karen Pfender ('16), Emily Shihadeh ('16), and Andie Speckman ('16), who came to act as judges for the Mabel G. Cooney Best in Show Award - an annual award in its 10th year - established in honor of teacher Steve Cooney's mother. The winner will be announced at the Upper School Awards Assembly on June 10th. (Judges pictured here with Art Department Chair Norma Gottlieb and Science Department Chair Steve Cooney.)

If you saw the large-scale piece of artwork outside the art rooms, you may have wondered how the work took place. Students painted with their feet (and sometimes hands) while listening to music, channeling the beat and style of the tunes. A fun and different way to express themselves together through art.

Some of Art Teacher Jodi Rice's Middle School students worked with clay to make two claymation videos. Claymation video artists: Josh, Davis, Evan, Meghan, Calder, Luke, Brady, & Cole. Click below to watch them (two videos will play in succession):

See Kyle on guitar, Louie and Khalil drumming, and the big community drum circle finale in the videos here (three videos will play in succession):

Annual Arts Fest

Since our founding in 1986, the Arts have been a key program at Delaware Valley Friends School. Our students explore painting, printmaking, sculpture, and ceramics. They learn music theory and instrumental and vocal skills. They take part in an excellent culinary arts program. In fact, many DVFS graduates have gone on to top art schools across the country and to successful creative careers as fine artists, sculptors, photographers, graphic designers, musicians, chefs, performing artists, and teachers!
