Eric Yost’s
appointment to the position of Executive Chef at the White Dog Café
means a return to Philadelphia for this Chester County native. Born in
Bryn Mawr, he grew up in West Chester, PA before graduating in 1999 with
a Culinary Arts degree from Johnson & Wales University in Rhode
Island. Early in his career Yost developed a respect for using fresh,
locally grown ingredients while honing his culinary skills at the
Coonamesset Inn on Cape Cod and the Dilworthtown Inn in West Chester.
His first management responsibility came at the age of 21 when he was
appointed Sous Chef at the Gables at Chadds Ford.
In 2003 Yost moved to
Florida to take up a position as Senior Sous Chef for Tommy Bahama
Restaurants. In this role he opened restaurants in Naples, FL,
Sandestin, FL and Las Vegas, NV. Yost was hired by Philadelphia
restaurateur Marty Grims in 2008 and brought as Chef to the Plantation
Restaurant on Long Beach Island, NJ. Four months later Grims purchased
the White Dog Café from founder Judy Wicks and Yost moved to University
City to oversee the iconic restaurant’s award winning contemporary
American cuisine. Known nationally for its commitment to using organic
ingredients from farms that pasture feed livestock and that practice
sustainable farming methods, the White Dog Café is a perfect complement
to Executive Chef Yost’s experience serving only the freshest
ingredients from the best local sources.
