The Delaware Valley Friends School provides five week, intensive, one-on-one instruction to help adolescents improve their reading and writing skills.
Our summer academic program is for students entering 6th through 12th grades and unlike regular school-year admissions, a diagnosed learning disability or difference is not required. In some cases, participation in the DVFS Summer Program qualifies as an extended school year program.
A typical day during our summer session includes:
- One-on-one reading and writing instruction with a trained tutor using Orton-Gillingham based instruction
- Assistive Technology course designed to introduce and encourage use of current specialized and main stream software programs to improve the academic success of students with learning challenges
- Math enrichment where fundamental skills are reinforced using multisensory, hands-on activities
- An art course led by our staff of professional artists where students can relax, have fun, and explore their creative sides
Our faculty has training in the Orton Gillingham approach designed to address the needs of students with dyslexia (struggles with reading), dysgraphia (writing challenges) or dyscalculia (math difficulties). In addition, many students have Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD) or Executive Functioning Disorder (challenges with memory and organization).
In five weeks, with consistent, individualized instruction, students are able to make progress that allows them to be much more successful in the coming school year. Our Summer Program brochure is available for you to read.

Tuition
Tuition for the five week summer program is $2,900 and covers
all course materials and fees. Limited, need-based financial aid is
available.
